is a concept that goes beyond ownership to include
a sense of responsibility and a lively concern, a willingness
to pledge oneself solemnly to something or to someone.
Today,
our Xaverian schools are no longer "owned"
but are collaboratively sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers
and many Lay men and women who have become associated
with the schools in many capacities. For now,
sponsorship seems to be the most appropriate approach
to articulate this special association, this concrete
response to the invitation to become Christian stewards
in the important work of Catholic secondary education."
