In addition to a strong college preparatory program mandated for each and every Xaverian student, several special programs are available which enhance the opportunities of our student population and enrich the overall profile of our educational program.

Beginning with the Genesis Program, sponsored by the Diocese of Brooklyn and housed at Xaverian, gifted boys and girls in grades 6 through 8 enjoy the opportunity to work in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere in which their special talents can be developed while preparing for the demands of high school. These students typically assume the challenge of high level work and have access to many of the physical and human resources of Xaverian High School: science labs, the Technology Center and many Xaverian faculty who teach in the Genesis Program.

In the last decade, Xaverian has developed the only program in the city, The Ryken Education Center, which accommodates the needs of certified learning disabled students who are college-bound. Since the inception of the program, these students have excelled in many areas and have achieved a 100% acceptance rate into college and university settings. A number of our Ryken graduates have completed both undergraduate and graduate programs and are currently working as teaching staff in the program that gave them their impetus into higher education. They serve as true positive role models for our current Ryken students.

The International Baccalaureate Program, introduced into Xaverian in 1996, has augmented both the curriculum and the instructional program at Xaverian. Providing access to a wide array of courses on a variety of levels and introducing challenging elective courses, the IB serves all students with strong motivation and effective work habits. This is not an elitist program but one that is available to interested students who welcome the challenge of a rigorous course of studies. The IB is a holistic approach to learning with a global perspective. The typical IB student, if there is a “typical” IB student, is academically strong, highly involved in extra curricular activities, and dedicated to the value of service to the community. Since the inception of the program, our IB student community has grown every year.

In short, Xaverian is a field of opportunities for every student who attends. Our regular “College Prep” program, along with the special programs designed to accommodate the needs and interests of our students, comprise a network of challenges that we hope prepare students for college and life-long learning.
