Genesis Student Handbook

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

Extracurricular activities are an integral part of the middle school experience, promoting social development and personal growth. These activities and clubs give the students opportunities to socialize and develop their talents and interests.

Genesis students have the opportunity to participate in the following activities:

Student Council
Lego Robotics Team
Mock Trial Team
Math Club
Political Club
Drama Club

Ideas for new activities are always welcomed and will be considered based on moderator availability and student interest.

HISTORY FAIR:

History Fair is an independent research project, interdisciplinary in scope, that combines the students’ interest in History as it relates to a theme set forth by National History Day. Students are mentored throughout their research by their teachers in the History and Writing departments. Seventh and eighth grade students compete on the city, state and national levels each year.

Sixth grade students complete their own independent Mini-History Fair project in the springtime of their sixth grade to introduce them to the research skills necessary to complete the project.

CAMPUS MINISTRY:

The Genesis at Xaverian students participate in various activities throughout the year under the guidance of the Campus Ministry director, Mr. John Dormer. Students participate in two retreats during the year. These retreats are designed to foster community, stewardship and personal spiritual development. Students also participate in service projects such as the “Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Program” which helps to provide wholesome meals to local outreach organizations.

Eighth grade students participate in a Christian Service project working with developmentally disabled students from a local Catholic school. Students meet four times a year at Genesis and work together on various activities designed to promote social interaction and the sharing of time and talents.

MUSIC PROGRAM:

Genesis at Xaverian students are invited to join Xaverian’s renowned Music program led by Mr. Joseph Loposky. Opportunities range from a beginning level to the highest levels of musicianship on all band and orchestral instruments. Instrument rental is available to students.
