The Xaverian Community of Emerging Leaders, (XCEL) is a summer enrichment program that integrates educational, spiritual and leadership development for young men and women entering the 8th grade. In the tradition of the Xaverian Brothers, we seek to create a community of students that possess a zeal for education as evidenced by their character, leadership, and commitment to scholastic success.
The program will run from June 29th - July 30th, Monday through Thursday, 8:30am - 2:00pm.
For more information, download the XCEL brochure here.
The admissions process begins with the online XCEL application. The applicant must also receive one recommendation from his current teacher or school administrator. The teacher or administrator will share a review of the student, as well as the student's most recent report card. The teacher/administrator recommendation may be submitted online or as a hard copy by accessing one of the links below. A medical form, which is available below, is also required. Completed application materials are due by April 20, 2015, and applicants will be made aware of their status in the middle of May.
The daily morning program includes TACHS prep classes, as well as elective course options in robotics, film production, and dramatics, followed by a variety of recreational activities in the afternoons. In addition to the use of our school gymnasium, our location across the street from Shore Road Park allows for outdoor extracurricular activities as well.
XCEL integrates its classroom curriculum with hands-on learning experiences. XCEL students spend one day each week at an off-campus location using New York City as their classroom. Along with weekly leadership seminars, students also participate in a one day servant leadership retreat and service project.
Leadership Retreat Experience
While academic enrichment is a major component of this program, equally important is a focus on the students’ spiritual and leadership development. XCEL students will engage in activities and coursework that encourage the development of their intellect and individuality. The culmination of these efforts will be a one day Leadership Retreat at the end of the XCEL program.
