A Message From the Athletic Director
On behalf of the entire Athletic Staff welcome to Xaverian High School Athletics "Home of the Clippers" and our New WEBSITE. Thomas Jefferson once said, "I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it."
Well, the work ethic of our 40 teams in athletics proved those words to be true. Their hard work produced an abundance of luck. Not all the teams won championships but they did have winning seasons measured by their enthusiasm, time, energy and effort. Some teams like Varsity Soccer and Volleyball went deep into the playoffs only to lose a close, hard fought, heartbreaking, tough game or match. We had athletes like Bill Plumeri captain of the Wrestling team, Mike Walsh and Eric Mackey from Golf qualify for the State Tournament.
We did have our 2007-2008 Champions:
Varsity Bowling team, captured the CHSAA 2007 City Championship. Senior Captain Rob Gugliamelli’s had the second 300 game bowled in league history.
Varsity Hockey: The 2007-2008 NYIHA Championship.
Varsity Lacrosse: The CHSAA 2007-2008 Division “B” Championship, and qualified for the NY Metro Tournament for the first time in program history.
JV Gold Baseball: The CHSAA 2007-2008 'AA' City Championship.
Varsity Gold Baseball: The CHSAA 2007-2008 'AA' Championship. Coach Canale's teams have won this title in this extremely competitive division 4 times in his 9 years as Skipper of the Varsity team.
So you see, Thomas Jefferson was right. With a lot of hard work you will get pools of luck. Watch the luck keep flowing during the 2008-2009 season because our teams will continue to work hard, endure hardships and dedicate themselves to their sport.
That is the Xaverian way! Xaverian Athletics, dedicated coaches teaching sportsmanship and hard work while having fun.
I hope I have the chance to see and greet you at the soccer and football fields, pools, bowling alleys, baseball diamonds and basketball courts.
