Student Life at Xaverian -

In addition to the many clubs and numerous sports listed, Xaverian students have an opportunity to participate in many other exciting events. An evening in June is set aside for those Juniors who want to attend their Junior Prom. Held against the backdrop of the Manhattan Skyline, the boys and their dates sail around Manhattan on a beautiful yacht enjoying the sights and sounds of our beautiful New York with plenty of food and music on hand. In May, Seniors have their opportunity to spend their formal social event with their classmates as they celebrate their prom at the Waldorf Astoria - probably the premier hotel in world!

There are two trips to Great Adventure each year. One is open to all students and it is strictly for fun. A second one is for students of Physics. These students learn about the study of physics in rides in the most practical way while having fun.

A very active global program allows ample opportunities for students to interact nationally and internationally with their peers. Those who qualify have an opportunity to travel to another country and spend one to three weeks with a host family, thus learning firsthand that particular culture. These same young men will reciprocate offering their foreign counterparts the opportunity to learn about our culture. Some of the countries involved have been: Russia, Japan, Italy, Romania, Germany, Argentina, Australia and England. It is also possible for a student to apply for a full semester abroad. In addition, participation to the Berlin Model United Nations Conference in Berlin, Germany is open to a few students each November. Those who are lucky to go mingle with other young people from many countries.

Domestically, Xaverian offers two programs that permit exposure to the international community as well by attending special conferences in several American cities, including Boston, Philadelphia and Washington. One such program is the Model United Nations Conference, an activity that promotes a better understanding and greater appreciation for the work of the United Nations; and the second is the Organization of American States, an activity that promotes better understanding for the countries of the Americas. Both of these events expose our boys to the international community as several countries of the world also participate.

Our music department has grown immensely over the last few years. Over a quarter of the student body is involved in our music program either playing an instrument or being in a vocal group. All students are more than welcome to participate. Last year, the chorus sang at the White House and this year, they had the privilege of singing at the National Gallery of the Arts. There is active participation in local parades too. Students willing to learn how to play bagpipes may join the Pipe and Drum Corps. This group has been prominent in the annual Saint Patrick's Parade.

Finally, to encourage our boys to meet and interact with the opposite sex, we put on several dances a year with our sister schools Fontbonne and Bishop Kearney. All students are invited to these events.

At Xaverian, we proudly can claim that there is something for everyone. If uncertain, all a young man needs to do is ask.
