2023 Season Recap

Our Xaverian Varsity Volleyball Program added a new chapter to the history books this season. The girls finished another successful season. It started by winning the Mineola High School Tournament, the Inaugural Caleigh Duggan Shore Road Classic, and culminated with Back-to-Back Undefeated Tier one Brooklyn-Queens Championships Undefeated City Champions. They finished their season at 16-0. They earned a coveted spot in the State tournament once again, finishing as State Finalists, falling in highly competitive fashion to the always dominant St. Mary's of Buffalo.

After being denied a freshman year season because of Covid-19, this year's group of seniors cemented the foundation for success that is stronger than ever. Seniors Lauren Valdermira (Captain), Sophia Fusco (Captain), Maggie Kelly, Julia Sala, Devon Conrath, Ariel Kovach, and  Chryssy Doussous will graduate with an undefeated record of 47-0 and three undefeated Brooklyn-Queens and three undefeated City Championship titles – a tremendous legacy created by remarkable young student-athletes.

The prowess of the Junior class was on display game in and game out. So many stellar performances were put forth by Juniors Julia Turchiano (Captain, All League), Cassie McDade (Captain, All League), Sophia Manfredi (All League), Alex Carbinaro (All League), Hailry O'Keeffe, Layla Duggan, Brooke Tracy, Liza Donnelly, Holly Murray, Nora Tubridy, Madison Catalano, and Bridget Anderson. Sophomore Jessie Coursey proved a tremendous addition on the court and showed leadership and maturity beyond compare.

It is important to celebrate the hard work that was put forth to achieve so many great heights. While the roster may change, the team culture and character that is responsible for the program's success will not! The dedication, hard work, and selfless sacrifice that these Clipper athletes have nurtured with their daily work will continue to keep them humble and hungry in the classroom and on the court as they strive to be "really good at volleyball, but great at life!"
