Xaverian’s President, Robert B. Alesi ’78, proudly announced that Marie McGoldrick-Raico has joined the school as Girls Volleyball Coach. Coach McGoldrick's arrival is the most recent addition to a strong lineup of talented coaches who are serving as the foundation of the school's girls athletics program. Earlier this year, the school announced the arrival of Ms. Margaret McKeon as Girls Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director, Mr. Mark Biancoviso as Softball Coach, and Ms. Erin Kennedy as Girls Soccer and Lacrosse Coach, as well as physical education and biology teacher.
Coach McGoldrick joins Xaverian after serving most recently as First Assistant Womens Volleyball Coach at her alma mater, St. Francis College. While a student there, she competed in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. She was inducted into their Hall of Fame for both Volleyball and Softball. A Division I scholarship recipient, Coach McGoldrick was on Deans List and the Northeast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll throughout her tenure. In high school, she was a GCHSAA State Champion in both Volleyball and Basketball.
Prior to joining St. Francis College's coaching staff, Coach McGoldrick taught English and coached Varsity Volleyball for 16 years at St. Edmund Prep. She is also extremely passionate about Sand Volleyball, and founded a Sand Volleyball training program in Rockaway.
President Bob Alesi '78 shares his excitement regarding Coach McGoldrick's arrival, saying, "We are incredibly blessed to have a coach of Marie's caliber joining our athletics program. Like all the coaches at Xaverian, Marie exemplifies the best elements of high school athletics; her incredible athletic success is perhaps surpassed only by her dedication to academic excellence. Her own experience as a successful student-athlete will undoubtedly set a great example for our own students about how to succeed not only on the court, but in the classroom as well."
Coach McGoldrick shares, "I am extraordinarily grateful to join the Xaverian community during such an exciting time in the school's history. I value Catholic education and have tremendous respect for the sacrifices that parents make to provide their children with this unique educational opportunity. That respect will guide the passion that I will bring to creating a solid foundation for a Volleyball program that will nurture a love for this great game while rewarding student--athletes for their teamwork and dedicated efforts, both in the classroom and on the Volleyball court. I am eager to begin this journey with the young ladies who will enter the first co-educational class in September!"
Marie McGoldrick-Raico was born and raised in Bay Ridge, and currently resides in Belle Harbor, NY with her husband, Dennis, and their son, Luke.
