The Xaverian Community of Emerging Leaders (XCEL)

XCEL is a summer enrichment program that integrates educational, spiritual, and leadership development for young women and men entering the eighth grade in September. In the Xaverian tradition, we seek students who possess zeal in the classroom and humility in their leadership. The program will run from June 26 to July 27, Monday through Thursday, 8:30am - 2:00pm.

The XCEL program accepts qualified young women and men who will have fulfilled all of their academic requirements at the end of seventh grade. Willing to excel as a servant leader and grow as a young person of faith and integrity, participants will explore their potential and sharpen their talents within a nurturing environment of passionate Xaverian teachers and friendly Xaverian student leaders.
This summer the XCEL program has 115 available seats. With annual applications exceeding that number, not all applicants are accepted. Therefore, please note that acceptance is based on the applicant’s record of academic consistency and effort, a willingness to learn and be challenged, and a mature demonstration of leadership among his or her peers.
To apply for XCEL, the parent/guardian and the student must:
  • Complete and submit the online application
  • Ask one school administrator or teacher to complete and submit the online recommendation
  • Submit a completed and physician-signed medical form (Please download and print the form below)
  • Send a copy of the applicant’s most recent report card
The online application process opens on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. The deadline for applying to XCEL is Monday, April 3, 2017. Please note that if any of above application requirements is not submitted by the deadline, then the application is considered incomplete.
If you have any questions, please contact the Director of XCEL,Vincent Raimondo ‘97, at xcel@xaverian.org.

The Program

The daily morning schedule includes TACHS prep classes, as well as elective course options in robotics, film production, studio art, creative writing, and dramatics, followed by a variety of recreational activities in the afternoon. In addition to the use of our school gymnasium, our location across the street from Shore Road Park allows for outdoor extracurricular activities as well. XCEL integrates its classroom curriculum with hands-on learning experiences. XCEL students spend one day each week at an off-campus location using New York City as their classroom.

Leadership Retreat Experience

While academic enrichment is a major component of the program, equally important is a focus on the students’ spiritual and leadership development. Along with weekly leadership seminars, students also participate in a one day servant leadership retreat and service project.
Established in 1957, Xaverian is one of thirteen schools nationwide sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers.
