Tumblers Defy Gravity

During the 1960s, interest in gymnastics was prevalent in high schools. The high-flying Xaverian Tumbling Team quickly put Xaverian on the NYC map, with its performances and sporting events at Columbia University, Madison Square Garden, and even on television. Its more frequent shows, however, were to entertain young people in  hospitals and children’s homes, and of course routinely appeared before the student body in our very own gymnasium.  Well-known and appreciated by audiences into the 1980s, the boys gained their skills and precision through a combination of hard practice and the infinite patience of their esteemed coach, Mr. Stanley Sajecki.
