Varsity Girls Volleyball -- October 17th

Ellie Wood '23
The Clippers took a quick trip down Shore Road on Monday, October 17th, to face Fontbonne Hall. After watching the JV team win in two sets, varsity took the court, and the energy in the gym was insane.

Fontbonne took on the court ready to go and played a smart game. For the first time this season, the Clippers lost the first set. Still on a high after winning a set against the undefeated Xaverian, the Bonnies took the second set. But, the game wasn’t over yet. The Bonnies still needed to win one more set to send the Clippers home with their first loss. Down 8-2 in the third set, the Clippers finally came together as a team and slowly took back control.

The Clippers won the third set 23-25 and went into the fourth set ready to pull away. Xaverian won the fourth set 19-25 and went into the fifth ready to beat Fontbonne for the second time this season and put the rough patch from the start of the game behind them. The Clippers' serve receive was finally coming together, and the connections and unspoken communication the girls had all season was finally back. The Clippers secured the win against Fontbonne in the fifth set where they won 11-15. It was a close game, but the girls' 11-0 streak remains.

On Wednesday, October 19th, for the last time at home and their last regular season game, the girls will face St. Francis Prep. That game will also be their senior night, where they will be celebrating their 7 seniors who will be playing their last game in the Xaverian gym. The girls are excited to finish out their season and head into playoffs but are sad to see the seniors play their last home game and would love to see the Xaverian community come out and support them while also helping them show their appreciation for the seniors.
