Girls Varsity Volleyball -- October 19th

Ellie Wood '23
On Wednesday, October 19th, the Clippers faced St. Francis Prep for their last regular season game for the year. Before they could finish out their regular season, they had to celebrate their seven seniors who played their last game in the Xaverian gym. Before the game, they had a ceremony for all the seniors. Post Ceremony, the Clippers came out ready to go and led 4-0 in the first set. After some back and forth with the Terrors, they pulled away and secured the first set.

In the second set, the lady’s offense was in full force. With big swings from all angles and great defense in the back row, St. Francis had a hard time keeping up. The third set went fast, and the energy from the crowd created an awesome environment to send the seniors out with one last game at home. The Clippers swept St Francis for the second time this season.

Post-game, the girls headed upstairs to celebrate with friends and family and share stories of their time on the team. Fellow teammates from both the JV and Varsity teams spoke about a senior who made them feel welcomed in their first weeks at Xaverian and the memories they made during their time playing together. This year the McDade sisters made history as the first set of sister setters on a varsity team, and although Cassie is sad to see her big sister go, she knows that there is much more amazing volleyball to come from everyone in the upcoming games!

After taking first place with a record of 12-0 for the regular season, Seniors Cara Anderson, Claudia Bayard, Nancy McDade, Maggie McNamee, Lauren Sarn, Shannon Smith, and Ellie Wood are sad that their time playing in the Xaverian gym has come to an end but know that their season is far from over as the team heads into the playoffs with a by for the quarter-finals. The girls look good, feel strong, and are excited to see who they will face next in the semifinals at the end of next week!
