Varsity Boys Basketball - December 9th

James Schmidt '23
The Varsity Boys Basketball team lost 53-52 to Archbishop Molloy in the final game of Friday’s tripleheader.

The Varsity Clippers’ home opener was kept very close between both teams throughout the entire game before culminating in a thrilling finish. Xaverian had a one-point lead, and Molloy called a timeout with 4 seconds remaining to inbound the ball at half-court. In the final play, a long 2-point buzzer-beater shot allowed Molloy to win in dramatic fashion as time ran out.

Although they ended up on the wrong side of a nail-biting finish, the Varsity Clippers still managed to have a decent offensive performance. Nasir Muhammad led the team in both points and rebounds with 27 and 7, while Don Colon-Lewis had 12 points and Aaron Goldstein had 9. The team had no problem finding the open man for wide-open shot opportunities, but many of those shots didn’t fall. Once the Clippers start converting more from mid-range and the 3-point line, their offense will be very difficult to stop.

The Varsity Clippers will look to get back on track when they play St. Francis Prep next Friday, which is the final game of another home tripleheader for Xaverian.
