Varsity Boys Tennis - May 16th

James Schmidt '23
The Varsity Boys' Tennis Team beat Archbishop Stepinac 5-0 Tuesday evening.

The Clippers had a quick turnaround from their match on Monday and had little time to rest, but they still got the job done against a rival Stepinac team to complete a clean sweep on the day. The windy conditions and clay courts at Gillie Park in White Plains were unfamiliar sights for Xaverian, as they predominantly play on hard courts without much wind. Due to the significantly reduced bounces on clay compared to other surfaces, defensive play-styles were rewarded and aggressive ones faced much more difficulty.

George Sfouggatakis, James Schmidt, and Robert Krute all secured dominant victories in their respective singles matches. Both doubles contests played out in a similar fashion, with the first team of George Robokos and Vincent Parente winning alongside the second team of Giovanni DeSantis and Anthony Polomene.

The Varsity Clippers now move to 6-0 on the season and will next take on St. Peter’s on Monday, May 22nd, which will also be Senior Day.
