Varsity Boys Tennis - June 5th

James Schmidt '23
The Varsity Boys' Tennis Team beat Monsignor McClancy 4-1 to win the CHSAA City Championship on Monday. After a dominating regular season and semifinal performance, the Clippers found themselves at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens to play against their biggest rival with everything on the line.

In first singles, George Sfouggatakis battled through a difficult matchup to win 2-6, 6-3, 10-5. James Schmidt won his second singles matchup in a dominant showing to finish his Xaverian tennis career with a mark of history. With his 6-1, 6-0 win, he achieves a 2-year undefeated stretch in his individual matches at 18-0 overall. Additionally, both doubles teams played vital roles in sealing the win today for the Clippers. The first team of John Paskowski and George Robokos secured convincing wins alongside the second team of Giovanni DeSantis and Vincent Parente.

After today’s events, seniors George Sfouggatakis, James Schmidt, Rob Krute, and Jordan Mercado finish their Xaverian tennis careers on a high note. They leave with a stellar overall record and with 3 city championship appearances, winning 2 of them.

We thank all of the members of the Clipper family who came out to support us during the season, and the team looks forward to a bright future for years to come.
