Ten Students Take on The United Nations!

On May 19, 2017, 10 of our students attended the United Nations Consortium on Sustainable Urbanization.
The event organized by the Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization brought together key stakeholders from Governments, UN systems and other international organizations, the private sector, and civil society to engage in a dialogue that emphasized the integrated and cross‐sectoral nature of sustainable infrastructure and portals to the city.  All modes of transport portals were addressed at the consortium. The meeting also looked at points of entry to the city from the perspective of the New Urban Agenda adopted in Quito in 2016.

Special guests: Dr. Joan Clos, United Nations Under‐Secretary‐General and Executive Director, United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‐Habitat), Thomas Vonier, FAIA, RIBA, President of the American Institute of Architects and Secretary General of the International Union of Architects (UIA), David Piscuskas, FAIA, President of AIA New York Chapter, Dr. Santiago Calatrava, Founder of Santiago Calatrava Architects

Mia Sanabria '20 stated that "The United Nations trip was a great experience for me. We got the chance to listen and speak to architects and engineers who work on sustaining infrastructure around the world. It was a great experience getting to ask them questions about their work and future ideas. I'm glad I had the chance to attend this meeting."

Liam Sawyer '19 reflected that "The trip to the United Nations was a very great experience. We learned so many different ways architects design buildings to better sustain the future. Being able to be in the United Nations was something I will never forget!"
