  • What is the opening week schedule for the 2018-2019 school year?


    STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE IN THEIR FULL SPRING UNIFORMS ALL WEEK.

    Wednesday, 9/5/18

    8:10 AM - Ryken students first day of classes (1/2 Day)
    8:30 AM - 10:30 AM - 6th grade Genesis students report to Genesis wing.
    9:30 AM - 10:30 AM - 7th & 8th grade Genesis students report to Genesis wing.
    8:30 AM - Seniors and Juniors report to auditorium.
    9:30AM - Sophomores will report to the auditorium.
    Note: Sophomores and Juniors will be dismissed on or before 11:30AM. 
    Students will receive their locker info and metro cards. Juniors will receive their iPads.



                                                                         Thursday 9/6/18


    No school for Genesis, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. 

    8:10 AM - Ryken students have a full day of class.
    8:30 AM - Freshmen report to their homerooms. Dismissal will be at approximately 1 PM. 
    8:30 AM - Transfer students in all grades will report to room 201 at 8:30AM. Dismissal will be at approximately 1PM.
    They will meet with their big brothers and sisters, receive metro cards, locker information, and student contracts.

    First Day of Classes. Day 1.
    Students report to homeroom at 8:20 AM, EXCEPT for Freshmen, who will report to the Auditorium for assembly to receive their iPads. 

    Please note: Friday, September 7, will be the first day for private bus service. Those that are registered for bus service will receive an email closer to the first week of school with more information. 



  • Where can I find the rest of the calendar?

    Our school calendar can be located two ways.

    1. Clicking on the calendar icon on our homepage in the top right corner. 

    or

    2. Logging into The Harbor and choosing calendar from the horizontal menu on top. Here, you can customize what you would like to view on your calendar. For example, you can set your calendar to view only school events, school and alumni events, or even athletic schedules within this view. Simply click on the calendars you would like to keep in your view on the left-hand sidebar. Each type of event is color-coded for you.

  • What are the uniform requirements?

    Xaverian expects our students to be well groomed and in proper dress code, or uniform, from the moment they enter the school until they leave. The following is a description of the uniform items that are required for all students, except for seniors. Students MUST purchase the items through Lands’ End. There are no exceptions!!  

    Online purchases: Go to www.landsend.com/school and find Xaverian by using our student’s preferred school number 900170705 or our school name and location. Create or sign into your account and start shopping with your personalized product checklist we have created.
    Phone purchases: Call 1(800) 469-2222 and reference our student’s preferred school number 900170705, grade level, and gender. Land’s End consultants are available 24/7 to assist you.
    The following is the ONLY dress code in effect for all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors:
     
    Boy’s Uniform Requirements (to be purchased from Lands’ End only) (Senior Uniforms are the only exception):
    Golf shirt:  The golf shirt has the Xaverian name and Clipper ship logo. Students may wear any of the following colors: light blue, navy, white, and yellow. The golf shirt may be worn only from September until November 1st and after Easter recess.
    Slacks: Students must wear slacks in any of the following colors: khaki or navy with the Clipper ship logo over the back rear pocket.
    Belt: Students must wear either a brown or black belt.
    Long sleeve button down shirt: Students will wear the long sleeve button down shirt with the Clipper ship logo over the pocket in any of the following colors: light blue, white, and yellow.
    Tie: Students must wear a necktie to school when wearing the long sleeve button down shirt. Students may select their own tie. No string ties, bow ties, and any offensive tie will be permitted. 
    Navy blue sweaters: Students may wear only one of the following sweaters, if they choose, over their long sleeve button down shirts: the “V” neck, zipper-down, vest, or cardigan sweaters with the Xaverian name and Clipper Ship Logo.
    Shoes: Students must wear EITHER A BLACK OR BROWN LEATHER TIE OR LOAFER SHOE with a plain toe front. NO sneakers, sandals, boots, boat shoes, clogs, moccasins, jogging, or any other shoe will be acceptable. Authorized school shoes may be purchased at Continental Shoes @ 6210 18th Avenue, Bklyn.     Gym Uniform: Students must wear the authorized Xaverian “T” shirt and shorts that are sold on the Lands’ End website. All students must wear sneakers while in the gym. Students should not wear any jewelry during physical education class. The physical education department will decide which sneakers are authorized.
    Hair Styles: Any hairstyle of a bizarre or extreme nature will be unacceptable (e.g. Mohawks, colored hair, buns, lines or designs in the hair etc.). Students must be well groomed at all times.
    Earrings & other body piercing:  Earrings or any other body piercing jewelry or gages are not to be worn by a male student in school. A student who cannot remove this earring/jewelry for whatever reason will be suspended from school until he can adhere to the school regulations.
    Jewelry: Students are not allowed to wear any necklaces (of any type or style) on the outside of their school uniform. All necklaces must be worn under the student’s shirt.
    Hats: Students may not wear hats of any type or any other inappropriate covering on their head (do-rags, bandanas, etc.) while in school.
    Outer apparel: Students may wear any appropriate outerwear to school, but must leave all jackets, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, overcoats, and hats in their lockers during the school day.

    Girl’s Uniform Requirements
    (to be purchased from Lands’ End only):
    Golf shirt:  The golf shirt has the Xaverian name and Clipper ship logo. Students may wear any of the following colors: light blue, navy, white, and yellow. The golf shirt may be worn only from September until November 1st and after Easter recess.

    Long sleeve button down shirt: Students will wear the long sleeve button down shirt with the Clipper ship logo over the pocket in any of the following colors: light blue, white, and yellow.
    Navy blue sweaters: Students may wear only one of the following sweaters, if they choose, over their long sleeve button down shirts: the “V” neck, zipper-down, vest, or cardigan sweater with the Xaverian name and Clipper Ship Logo.

    Socks & tights: Students may wear solid white or navy blue knee socks, ankle socks, or solid color navy blue, or white tights. Leg warmers are not allowed to be worn.

Students should not wear any jewelry during physical education class. The physical education department will decide which sneakers are authorized.

    Outer apparel: Students may wear any appropriate outerwear to school, but must leave all jackets, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, overcoats, and hats in their lockers during the school day.
     
    Please Note:  The Administration must approve any deviation to the above-described dress code and reserves the right to determine which items of clothing will be acceptable. Parents will be notified of any changes. Any student who is out of dress code will be sent to the main office. Repeat offenders will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action and may be sent home at the discretion of the Assistant Principal. 
  • What is the Fall Athletic Try Out Information?

    Girls Volleyball -  Tryouts for Girls Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball will be held on Monday, August 20th from 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the school's gymnasium. Please bring your athletic medical form (up to date). The form can be found on the school's website. Please wear knee pads (if you have them) and water for hydration.  For questions, please contact Coach McGoldrick -  mcgoldrickathleticconsulting@aol.com.
     
    Girls Soccer - Tryouts will take place August 20th - 23rd from 7am - 10 am at Aviator Sports and Recreation Center on Flatbush Ave. Please bring your athletic medical form (up to date). The form can be found on the school's website. If anyone has any questions they can contact Coach Kennedy at ekennedy@xaverian.org.
     
    Boys Soccer -  JV and Varsity Soccer tryouts will take place starting Tuesday, August 21st at Calvert Vaux Park (2000 Shore Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11204). Tryouts begin at 7:00 AM. Players should come properly equipped with soccer cleat and shin guards. If anyone has any questions they can reach Coach Barone at pbarone@xaverian.org
     
    Football -  Football clinics begin Aug 1 at 2pm. Report to gymnasium with cleats, sneakers and grey t-shirt (any kind) and navy shorts (any kind). Additionally, bring completed forms from Xaverian’s website under the Athletics tab. Dismissal will be around 7 pm. Clinics will be Mon-Fri until 8/20.     Girls Tennis -  Tryouts will be held from Aug 21-23 from 8am-12pm at McKinley Park Tennis Courts (76th st and Fort Hamilton Pkwy). For students who make the team, practice will start that Friday, Aug 24th at 8am, and will be held everyday Monday through Friday.     Cheer - Cheerleading tryouts will be held on August 22 from 8:45am - 12pm
    in the Xaverian Cafeteria (enter on 71st side entrance). Please dress appropriately in athletic gear, including sneakers and bring a water bottle. Also, bring a copy of your completed medical form. The team rosters will be posted at 1:30pm, all team members must stay for the uniform fitting at approximately 2pm.     Cross Country  - Boys and girls who are interested in joining the Cross Country teams must speak with coach McCartney the first week of school. Start summer training now to be able to have the ability to run at least a mile in September; announcements will be made in school that first week. If you'd like to reach out to Coach McCartney beforehand he can be reached at bmccartney@xaverian.org.
     
    Bowling - Tryouts will take place during the first month of school. Please listen for announcements in the mornings for more information. If you have any questions please email Coach Mace at dmace@xaverian.org.
     
    Baseball - Tryouts will take place throughout the month of September. Please listen for announcements in the mornings for more information. If you have any questions please see Mr. DelGeorge in the Phys. Ed department.
     
    Swimming - Tryouts for the girls and boys teams will take place during the first few weeks of school. Please see Coach Ward in school or email him at jcw7603@aol.com.
     
    Softball - Tryouts will take place throughout the month of September. Please listen for announcements in the mornings for more information. If you have any questions please email Coach Biancoviso at markb131@verizon.net.
     
    Hockey - Open skate will take place throughout the month of October. Anyone interested should email Coach Esposito at aje2315@msn.com.
     
    All other sports will have tryouts throughout the year and you should listen for announcements throughout the year for more information.
  • Where do I get my Metro card?

    You will be issued a Metro card in homeroom.  If you lose your card, please report it to Mrs. D'Onofrio in the Main Office.
  • Do I get a locker? How do I open my locker?

    A sheet will be given to you with your locker number and your lock combination. A charge of $15.00 is added to your tuition statement for the two locks that will be assigned to you. Do not give this combination out to anyone!  Spin the lock dial to the right and pass zero three times before stopping at the first number.
    • Now spin the lock dial to the left, passing the second number once, and then stop at the second number.
    • Finally spin the lock dial back to the right directly to the third number and stop.
    • Pull down on your lock and it should open.
    • Make sure you always check your locker before leaving.
    • If you forget your locker combination, please see Mrs. D'Onofrio in the Main Office.
  • Where do I go if I am late or absent?

    Please report immediately to the Attendance Office, located inside the cafeteria on the basement level.  You must receive a late slip or an absentee slip. Students who are late for homeroom will be required to serve detention that same day after school. No student will be admitted into class without one of these slips.
     
  • Can I use the elevator?

    No student may use the elevator unless you have a permission note from the Nurse’s Office or are authorized by a Faculty or staff member.
     
  • Must I wear my ID card while in school?

    All students must carry their ID card while in the building and present it when requested.
  • What if I need working papers?

    Please see Ms. Waters, in the nurse’s office. Details are on the website.
     
  • Can I get extra help in my academics?

    Students should speak with their teacher, guidance counselor, or the assistant principal for academics, Mr. Sharib for additional assistance. There is an after school program from Monday through Wednesday. Schedule of classes will be posted after the first cycle.
  • What if there is a problem with my schedule or I have a personal concern?

    Please feel free to report any concerns or issues to the Guidance Office.
     
  • Can I use my “smart” phone in the building?

    Students may carry smart phones, but should be on vibrate/silent and can only be used in the classroom with the authority of the teacher or used in the student cafeteria. Students MAY NOT use their smart phone to make calls or send text messages. If the smart phone is used inappropriately, such as to cause a disturbance, to take pictures, videos, or if used without the authorization of a teacher/staff, the phone maybe confiscated. If the smart phone is confiscated, it will be turned over to the school’s Security Office and returned to either the parents or student at a designated time. Administrators, teachers and school staff members are empowered to confiscate phones and other devices when used inappropriately during school hours.
     
  • When and where do I eat?

    Your meal period will rotate throughout your schedule, just like all your other classes. Students will report to the cafeteria on the basement level. The cafeteria sells food throughout the day. When students have an early or late meal period they will be allowed to bring only a snack to their 11:50AM class.
  • Where can I go when I have a study period?

    You should report to the cafeteria or the designated study hall location (TBD). No student may leave the building.
  • Where do I go if I am feeling sick?

    The school nurse’s office is located on the second floor on the MacKay Place side of the building.
     

  • What if I lose something?

    Please report to the Security Office on the basement level next to the Guidance Office.
     
  • What if I lose my ID card?

    Report to the Security Office, located on the basement level (next to the Guidance Office).  Students will be charged a fee of $5.00 for replacement ID cards.
  • What time does school start and end?

    Students must report to homeroom prior to 8:20AM, or you will be marked late or absent.  Students will be dismissed at 2:25PM on a regular day schedule and at 12:40 on a CST day.
  • How does the schedule work?

    The schedule is on a nine day cycle.  The following is an example of a DAY 1 schedule on a regular day and for a short day, Thursday or (CST) schedule:

  • Can I leave the building throughout the day?

    No student may leave the building until dismissal time.
  • May I take Photographs, Audio or Videos while in school?

    Any student who takes photographs or videos with a smart phone, iPad or any other device, without the prior permission of a teacher will forfeit the device and be suspended out of school until a dismissal hearing is held with the Principal or Assistant Principal. Any inappropriate use of these photographs or videos taken in the school may further result in expulsion.
    Students who are working with the school newspaper, communications office, or yearbook staff must be registered with the Assistant Principal.
