On Friday, December 8th, the 29th annual MAX Winter Concert was held in Xaverian’s Performing Arts Center. Thirteen groups performed under the direction of Mr. Loposky, the Director of the Music Program. 

As Mr. Loposky explained, “We had 300 plus students performing that night. Each group, in their own turn, did better than we could have imagined.”

Several Christmas songs were played throughout the night, including “O Come Let Us Adore Him,” “Deck the Halls,” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” putting the audience in a festive mood. 

As MAX student Ava Forde ‘25 stated, “The Winter Concert was a great way to kick off the Christmas season, displaying the variety of talents of the students involved in MAX.”

While there were many Christmas songs, there was also a variety of different music played. One surprise song that was played was the debut of the melody of Xaverian’s Fight Song. As Mr. Loposky explained to the audience, while the lyrics to the Xaverian Alma Mater were known, no one actually knew what the melody of the song was. Over the summer, music teacher Mr. Randazzo ‘08 worked on creating the music, which he debuted with the band and chorus during the concert.

Another highlight of the concert was when Mr. Loposky introduced Mr. Zupo, a St. Michael’s alum from the Class of 1959. Mr. Zupo conducted the band in playing the “Old Comrades” march. He explained that in honor of the 82nd Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the march was dedicated to all the veterans and servicemen in the audience and worldwide.

Overall, the concert was a fun mix of different styles of music. The night showcased the talents of the Orchestra, Chorus, Guitar Ensemble, Piano, and Drum Line. The audience was even treated to a performance by the Xaverian Rock Band, who played “Underneath the Tree.”

The Max Winter Concert was an impressive display of all the musical talent here at Xaverian. Everyone who contributed put in so much hard work and effort. As Mr. Loposky stated, “The preparation and practice really prepared the students to play well.” 

It was because of everyone’s dedication that the night was a huge success. Mr. Loposky agreed, stating, “It was an excellent show; everyone did great, and the audience really appreciated that.” 

It’ll be exciting to see what next year’s show brings, but this one is definitely going to be hard to top.
