XAVERIAN TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES 
PRIVATE BUS SERVICE
Private bus service for Xaverian students to and from School is available for students traveling from Lower Manhattan, Staten Island, and designated areas of Brooklyn and Queens. In conjunction with the School’s bus provider, Xaverian incorporates a safety plan containing procedures to ensure the safe transport of all students.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS: 
  • All students are required to arrive at the designated bus stop five (5) minutes before the scheduled pick up time
  • All students must possess proper student identification before being admitted on the bus, and when requested by the bus driver or bus attendant. New students will be on the drivers’ passenger list, which will serve as their ID until such time that they receive theirs from Xaverian.
  • Use only his/her designated bus stop.
  • Respect the rights and property of others on the bus and at the bus stop.
  • Students are expressly prohibited from transporting any hazardous objects as defined in the Xaverian High School Student Handbook.
  • Always enter and exit the bus through the entrance door except in emergencies or as instructed by the Driver.
  • Keep all parts of the body inside the bus.
  • Profane language, obscene gestures, fighting or anything deemed inconsistent with Xaverian students expectations will result in termination of eligibility and subject to disciplinary action by Xaverian.
FEES:
The annual fee for bus service for the 2020-2021 school year is $2,200.00.  Xaverian provides two options for payment. Both options are billed through your SMART TUITION account.
  • Full payment plan: A 10% discount is given if a full payment of $2,000.00 is made by September 1st. 
 
  • Monthly payment plan:  A monthly fee of $220.00 from September through June will be billed through your SMART TUITION account.
 
As in the past, families contract bus service for the entire School year whether or not it is utilized. There is not an option for one-way service, nor is there an option to enroll on an as needed basis for bus service. 
 
All payments are made through your SMART tuition account and are subject to the same payment policies pertaining to tuition payments. There are no refunds for cancellation by a parent during the school year.  
 
Since the current Xaverian reopening plan calls for a blend of remote distancing learning and in-person teaching, all families, regardless of payment in full or montly payments, will receive a monthly credit of 50% of each month’s bus fee. This will continue to be Xaverian’s policy until the School returns to full-time in-person teaching or full-time remote learning.  
 
COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES:
Thank you for your patience as we work to incorporate the new recommendations and guidelines from the New York State Education Department as well as the DOH and the CDC to ensure the safety of our students while traveling to and from school on a school bus. Xaverian and its provider, the Deville Bus Company, acknowledge that the safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority, and we will continue to implement new safety recommendations as they are released by the aforementioned agencies to local school and school districts throughout New York State. It is our intention that full bus service will be available to our students in September as the school reopens to in person instruction, and as such, we are currently conducting our normal registration procedure indicated below.
There will be a number of additional safety protocols in place as we begin the new school year, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Each student will be required to wear a face covering while riding the bus.
  • A bus attendant will be added to buses, as needed,  to ensure compliance with all safety and school behavioral requirements.
  • Social distancing will be required of all students when waiting for pickup, entering, and exiting the bus
  • When possible, additional buses will be added to high volume bus routes to reduce density and promote greater social distancing practices.
  • Each bus will be fully sanitized before both morning and afternoon runs.
  • Bus drivers and attendants will ensure there are open windows to facilitate adequate air circulation throughout the bus.
  • Prior to boarding the bus, all students will be responsible for following the in-home temperature and health screening protocols that will be in effect and communicated in the school’s reopening plan.
 
 
Please note that, while routes have always accommodated students’ within walking distance of their homes, compliance with new safety regulations may require the temporary use of general pickup and drop-off spots for multiple students.  

REGISTRATION:
To facilitate the implementation of these plans, it is important that we have an accurate indication of our ridership. Please note that the deadline for registration has been modified from last year.  

The deadline for all registration is Friday, August 21st.  

Full payment is due by September 1st, or if you choose a monthly plan your first payment is due with your September SMART remittance invoice.

ROUTES:
 
There are currently 14 routes transporting Xaverian students.  These routes are adjusted annually, relative to the number of students registered and their home addresses.  Stops are set within a reasonable distance of a student’s home wherever possible and are subject to change based on enrollment. 

In order to facilitate convenience for each student, the routes are not established, nor are families notified, until late August or the first week of September.  While we will not be able to tell you the location and time of the student’s pick up until then, we can advise that it will be as close to the student’s home as possible and that the pickup will most likely be between 6:30 AM and 7 AM.  Music students will always arrive (barring traffic) for any activities that take place before school. 

Staten Island (8)- Routes originate on the South Shore, Bulls Head, North Shore and Graniteville.  

Brooklyn (4)– Routes originate in Lower Manhattan, Downtown Brooklyn, Canarsie and Mill Basin.

Howard Beach (1)- Originates on Cross Bay Boulevard.  Travels through the Rockaways. 

Rockaway(2) - Originates in Howard Beach (1) and on Shore Front Parkway, making multiple stops, the last of which is in Neponsit.

Breezy Point (1)- Originates near Bedford Walk, traveling into and then out of Breezy, making five stops.
 
LATE BUS SERVICE:
 
Xaverian normally provides late bus service, as needed, for students participating in extracurricular activities.  The bus is available for students on Staten Island (two stops) and in Canarsie/Rockaway/Breezy and Howard Beach (three stops). 
 
Due to the restrictions resulting from COVID-19, late bus service may not be available at the start of the school year. The school will determine when late bus service may resume once it has assessed the level of demand for this service.
