This October, thanks to an opportunity provided by Board Member and Xaverian alumnus Phil Lian ‘66, a group of 29 students—accompanied by Principal Sharib ‘96, Mrs. Postler, and Dr. Lavelle—took part in the Spirit of America Youth Leadership Retreat in historic Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The program offered a comprehensive exploration of civic responsibility, leadership, and the guiding principles that shaped the founding of the United States. Students participated in a Socrates café on fostering civic virtues and civic dialogue, toured the Medal of Honor Grove to learn about Medal of Honor recipients, and took part in a “Shark Tank”-style competition focused on creative problem-solving. Throughout the program, students interacted with various historical interpreters and toured the Valley Forge National Historical Park.

The retreat provided a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of American history, deepen their commitment to responsible citizenship, and develop leadership skills they will carry forward into their academic and personal lives.
