Dr. Simon is a polymath—psychiatrist, researcher, teacher, writer, and public health leader—who has spent his career meeting young people and families where they are, in emergency rooms, inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and living rooms, because he believes some conversations can only happen at home. He serves as Boston’s inaugural Chief Behavioral Health Officer, leading the city’s behavioral health strategy for more than 650,000 residents. He continues to care for patients at Boston Children’s Hospital and, as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, teaches future physicians to recognize the life circumstances that shape health, and to keep their own humanity intact in the process. Dr. Simon is triple board-certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. He completed Adult Psychiatry Residency at Morehouse School of Medicine, with primary clinical training at Grady Hospital and the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center, then completed fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School. His research, focused on youth mental health, adolescent substance use, and health equity—particularly the prevention, early identification, and expansion of timely, appropriate access to care—has received national recognition and support from the National Institutes of Health. His writing has appeared in leading journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. He has also served as a consultant to​ federal agencies, including the United States Department of Justice, advising its Criminal Division’s​ Health Care Fraud Unit on mental health and healthcare systems. His perspective is regularly sought by​ national audiences through outlets such as NPR. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Morgan State University, his Medical Degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, his Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and his MBA from The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. He is also a former Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Health Policy, focused on advancing more​ equitable health systems. The son of Haitian immigrants raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Simon was shaped by a household where hospitality was non-negotiable and showing up for one’s neighbor was expected. He is a graduate of Xaverian High School (Class of 2003), where that sense of responsibility to others was deepened and​ given form. He lives in the Greater Boston area with his wife, Dr. Brittne Halford, and their two children—where the practice of care is not an idea, but a daily commitment to remain present to others, especially in moments that ask the most.
