At 6:30 on November 1st, two hundred of Xaverian’s seniors proceeded down the aisle in the Performing Arts Center to be inducted into the Brother Hilary Chapter of the National Honors Society. 

Admittance into the National Honors Society (NHS) has been a mark of student achievement for over a hundred years and acknowledges and celebrates well-rounded, accomplished students. The NHS provides resources for its members, and admittance into the society helps students stand out in the college applicant pool. Members have access to scholarships, conferences, and advisors, as well as a project database. 

Lucia Trenard ‘24 said, “I’m excited to represent my school and be a part of the National Honors Society!”

To be eligible for NHS, students must uphold a 90 average or above for all years at Xaverian while upholding the four pillars of the National Honors Society: service, knowledge, leadership, and character. These pillars, and the inductees’ proficiency in each, were celebrated during the ceremony through a candle lighting accompanied by speeches for each pillar. 

Chryssy Dossous ‘24 set off the ceremony with an opening prayer. Speeches from Mr. Moloney, the NHS moderator at Xaverian, along with Mr. Moon and Mr. Sharib followed. Sharib’s speech focused on the legacy each senior class has at Xaverian and the high expectations he has for this year’s senior class legacy. 

The bulk of the ceremony was the official induction of the seniors. Each student was called to the stage to receive their certificate and take a picture with Mr. Moloney on stage. After every student had been given their certificates, the seniors recited the pledge of the NHS and were officially inducted into the National Honors Society. 

Jordyn Stradford ‘24 commented on the ceremony, “Being inducted into an honorable society that will be recognized by the colleges I apply to means so much, and the ceremony was beautiful.”
