This past Friday, the girls of Xaverian came together to have a night of bonding, inspiration, and fun, while unwinding from all the stresses of day-to-day life in their pajamas. Girls Night – as it’s been dubbed – is a fairly new Xaverian tradition attended by freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior girls and run by Ms. Healey, Ms. Iuni, and Ms. Stiglianese. 

Around 75 girls attended this past event, beating their record from the previous year. Girls this year were able to bring their pajamas, enjoy a pizza dinner from L&B, and set up little crafts in the school’s classrooms, where they created vision boards, collages, memory jars, paintings, and friendship bracelets, and partook in small group discussions. 

Ms. Iuni stated, “Girls Night is such a fantastic experience because it gives students an opportunity to celebrate themselves.”

As the girls were involved in a lot of activities, they were also able to just relax and lounge in the auditorium while watching one of the year’s top movies, Barbie. 

Barbie, which was released this past summer, essentially relayed a message to women directly, even though it was also a funny and comical movie. Through this movie, women all around the world were able to grasp Barbie’s change and evolution from an immature and childish person to a woman who has accepted and embraced adulthood and womanhood no matter her fear. The girls of Xaverian thrive on being women who can change and impact the world with their abilities and talents. Barbie was a movie that motivated them to realize that they could do whatever they put their minds to. 

The idea of Girls Night came to be established by Alex Salvato ‘25 who pitched the idea in 2020. Salvato ‘25 stated, “Girls Night was just such a fun environment to be in and the energy was so up. It’s one of my favorite events that Xaverian holds.”

Ms. Stiglianese stated, “ Everyone's input was appreciated and we were able to bring our unique ideas and strengths to make the event special. Girl's Night always looks to watch a movie that highlights female-empowerment or teaches a life lesson. So far I've really enjoyed being part of the Girl's Night events and I'm looking forward to holding more in the future. They've been nights filled with laughter and female camaraderie and it seems like all the girls who attended had a great time!”

With the many traditions of Xaverian, this tradition, too, has been a great success in empowering our young women to be strong, supportive women for each other and our world.
