From Clipper to Gates Scholar: Barron Wei '18 wins prestigious scholarship!
After completing an arduous application process with three rounds of cuts, Xaverian senior Barron Wei is one of only 300 students from across the country to be awarded a Gates Scholarship. Launched this year, the new program from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded its first full scholarships to 300 students in the Class of 2018. The support will include not just tuition, but also cover fees, housing, books and other costs.
Barron, who has been accepted to Princeton University, Cornell University, Columbia University, and Brown University, will be a member of Harvard University’s Class of 2022.
"Applying for and receiving The Gates Scholarship has been an incredible opportunity for me to reflect on both myself and my community,” Barron remarked. "Being a Gates Scholar is and will continue to be a reminder that this honor, alongside all of my other achievements, does not only belong to me but also to those around me.”
Barron will graduate alongside his classmates on June 2nd.
