Ed Gilligan '77

We regretfully inform you of the passing of your classmate, Ed Gilligan.  Ed passed away suddenly on May 29th, 2015.

Ed, President of the American Express Company, was a member of the Xaverian Board of Trustees and a faithful supporter of the school.

Ed leaves behind his beloved wife, Lisa, as well as their four children, Katie, Meaghan, Kevin and Shane.
President Bob Alesi '78 released the following announcement upon hearing of Ed's passing:

"On behalf of the entire Xaverian community, I would like to express our deepest condolences to the Gilligan family.  We are extremely saddened by the sudden passing of such an incredible alumnus, board member, and friend.

When Ed joined the Board of Trustees in September of 2014, he stated, “As the challenges in the world increase, so do the opportunities for making a difference.  I want to do what I can to make sure young people have the opportunities I had to succeed.  Xaverian was a big part of preparing me for the future, and this is a small way that I can pay it forward.”

Through his work on the Board of Trustees, as well as his philanthropic commitment to Xaverian, Ed has certainly accomplished his goal of “paying it forward” by touching the lives of thousands of students.  We can think of no greater example of a man who lived his life according to the mission of the Xaverian Brothers, which is to “fall in love with the service of God.”

Ed’s wife, Lisa, and their four children, Katie, Meaghan, Kevin and Shane, will be in our prayers."
