Please be aware, you are not permitted to drive into the parking lot to drop them off.  You must park and walk them in if you wish to bring them to the door.  Please do not double park on 71st Street.  Not only is it a serious safety hazard for our students, but it also blocks the NYC buses and school buses that travel down 71st Street.

Students can bring their supplies on Wednesday and will be given time to store them in the lockers.

Dismissal on Wednesday, September 5th is at 10:30 a.m. All students will be dismissed through the parking lot entrance.  Students will walk out to 71st along the pathway.  Please do not wait at the parking lot doors at dismissal.  The Commons is not open after school on Wednesday, September 5th.

    Dismissal

Middle school students are dismissed through the parking lot during the first week only.  After that students are free to use any of the available exits.  Students are not escorted out by their teachers and it is up to each individual family to decide on meeting places if you are picking up your child. Students are permitted to stay in the Commons until 4:00 p.m.

    Security

All visitors to the school must report to the Security Office on 71st Street before entering the building.  Parents are not permitted to come to the Genesis wing without a visitor's pass and clearance from the Genesis Office. This policy is to ensure the safety of our students at all times.

    Forgotten Items

We understand that students will forget things from time to time. Genesis school policy is that parents are not permitted to bring forgotten items to the school for delivery to the child. Delivery of forgotten items causes a disruption to the school day.  I ask that you respect the spirit of this policy as it helps us keep the classrooms free from interruption and allows students to continue their growth in the area of personal responsibility.

    Cell Phones and iPads

All 6th grade students will be given iPads.  Students are not to use their cell phones or iPads to text a parent or anyone else during the school day.  Students in violation of this policy will have their device taken away.  We ask that parents also follow this rule.  Many times students will have received a message from their parent which they are responding to.  If you need to get an urgent message to your child, please call the office and we will assist you.  If your child needs to reach you for any reason during the school day, the office phone is always available.

*There will be more information sent out at the beginning of school about our Acceptable Use Policy.*

    Absences and Lateness

Regular, timely attendance is necessary for success in school. It is important that your child be in attendance unless he or she is ill.  Allergies, slight head colds, or minor injuries are not reasons for a child to miss school.  Students should stay home if they have fever, stomach viruses, or contagious illnesses.  Any student absent for more than three days requires a doctor's note to return to school. Absences must be called in before 9:00 a.m. or a student will be marked truant.

    Questions and Meeting Requests

The Genesis faculty, staff, and administration are always available to assist with questions or concerns you may have.  Mrs. McEvoy can be reached via e-mail pmcevoy@xaverian.org or by calling the office at x188.  E-mail is preferred as responses can be sent within minutes and follow-up contact can be scheduled.  Please note, if you request a meeting (with the exception of an emergency), it is difficult to schedule same day appointments.  If you wish to set up a meeting, please call the office and the secretaries will assist you in finding a mutually convenient time within a few days of your request.

We are very excited for the year ahead and look forward to welcoming your children, and you, in September!
