Augastin Kozhimala ‘06, RN, MBA has built an impressive career at the intersection of healthcare, leadership, and service, with values deeply rooted in his Xaverian education. After graduating from Xaverian, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a dual degree in Nursing and Economics from the Wharton School of Business, focusing on Healthcare Management.
His professional journey has spanned roles as a clinician, consultant, and administrator at some of New York’s most prestigious medical institutions, including NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, NYU Langone Health, and currently, the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). At HSS, he serves as Senior Director of the West Side Ambulatory Surgery Center, where his team cares for patients and athletes of all levels recovering from sports-related injuries.
A highlight of his career was participating in a medical mission in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he collaborated with Weill Cornell Medical Center providers to deliver neurosurgical care and train local clinicians. “That experience reminded me that helping others is at the heart of why I chose healthcare,” he reflects.
Looking back on his time at Xaverian, he fondly remembers the “family and camaraderie” that defined his high school years, as well as mentors like Mr. Joe Verde, Mr. Frank McCartney, and Mr. Richard Montalbano, who helped shape his path. His advice to current students: “Take advantage of the people and resources around you. Xaverian’s faculty truly care about your success, both now and long after graduation.”
