Clip the Clippers is Xaverian's way of taking part in the fight against childhood cancer. Participants in the event shave their heads or cut and donate their hair to start a conversation about childhood cancer, to raise funds for the cause, and to make wigs for children suffering from hair loss.
In 2018 and 2019, Clip the Clippers had a combined 200 students and faculty participate. They raised over $130,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and donated hair to Children with Hair Loss to make over 40 wigs.
This year, Clip the Clippers will benefit Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation and Children with Hair Loss.
Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation’s mission is to fund less toxic therapies for children with cancer so they can have a better quality of life as they battle the disease and to give families hope by bridging the funding gap and making available potentially life-saving clinical trials that would otherwise not be available. Childhood cancer researchers from across the country apply for grants annually from Arms Wide Open. To date, AWOCCF has funded over 80 research grants, which has provided children with cancer alternative treatment options in hospitals throughout the US and Canada.
Children With Hair Loss is a non-profit organization that provides human hair replacements to children and young adults facing medically-related hair loss. They understand that when a child's hair is lost due to cancer treatments, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns, or other rare diseases and disorders, the painful effects are far deeper than just cosmetic. CWHL’s mission and goal is to never charge a family at a time when they need the most help. Currently, they provide a customized human hair replacement and care kit to over 300 children a year!
