Xaverian Students Participate in Annual Spirit of America Youth Leadership Retreat at Valley Forge
Thanks to an opportunity provided by Board Member and Xaverian alumnus Phil Lian, a group of students—accompanied by Principal Sharib '96, Mrs. Postler, and Mr. Mulholland—took part in the Spirit of America Youth Leadership Retreat held in the historic setting of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The four-day program offered a comprehensive exploration of civic responsibility, leadership, and the guiding principles that shaped the founding of the United States.
Throughout the retreat, students were immersed in activities designed to strengthen their understanding of government, citizenship, and ethical decision-making. Participants engaged in a mock congressional session, collaborated on policy proposals, and took part in a “Shark Tank”-style competition that encouraged creative problem-solving. Interactive sessions with historical interpreters portraying influential figures further enhanced the educational experience by connecting classroom knowledge to real-world historical context.
In addition to academic components, the program emphasized character formation and personal reflection. Students were encouraged to consider their own values, the responsibilities of civic engagement, and the qualities of effective leadership.
The retreat provided a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of American history, deepen their commitment to responsible citizenship, and develop leadership skills they will carry forward into their academic and personal lives.
