Varsity Boys Tennis - May 11th

James Schmidt '23
The Varsity Boys' Tennis Team beat Monsignor McClancy 5-0 on Monday.

The Clippers opened the week by hosting the 2nd place Crusaders in a pivotal matchup to determine the first seed in the playoffs, and they took care of business in a dominant showing. James Schmidt put Xaverian on the board early with a swift 6-1, 6-0 victory in second singles. Both doubles teams pulled through once again, with the first team of John Paskowski and George Robokos winning easily along with the second team of Bartosz Foremny and Brendan Lee. George Sfouggatakis later won 6-4, 6-3 in first singles in a very competitive match.

In the last match of the evening, Robert Krute outlasted his opponent in third singles for a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win. Playing on home courts ultimately proved to be a major boon to the entire team’s effort, as they didn’t encounter the same difficulty against McClancy as they did during their away matchup.

The Varsity Clippers will be back in action today, May 16th, when they travel to New Rochelle to face Archbishop Stepinac.
