Students Get Their Heads in the Books for Midterms!

Over the course of the years, Xaverian has experienced an outstanding amount of academic success. With rising scores on the ACT and SAT, it is clear that instruction in the classroom and rigorous assessments are preparing students well. And midterms are just one of those factors leading to the success.

As the new year begins, students and faculty are preparing for Midterms & Regents Week, which will take place from Monday, January 22nd to Friday, January 26th. Reviews taking place in class, before school, after school, peer tutoring, and extra help are filling students’ schedules as they prepare for the week.

While test taking may not be the most enjoyable activity, it serves as very beneficial for both the students and faculty. The results allow the faculty to keep track of the progress the students are making in the first half of the school year and get a general idea of what material they are still struggling with so that they can improve that in the second half of the school year.

When asked about his feelings on midterms, sophomore Joseph Sparacio stated, “Midterms allow students to understand the material they need to review in the first half of the year in order to prepare for the final exam. Without these mid-year tests, students struggle to handle the large amounts of material by the end of the year.”

This may not be the most enjoyable part of the school year; however, once midterms are finished, the high test scores will be worth it for both the students and teachers. Students should be sure to take advantage of all the resources made available to them, including the After School Tutoring Program and Peer Tutoring.
