• NEW 6/24 What will happen to any payments on either senior or junior prom?

  Because of the uncertainty of when the restrictions will be lifted in NYC, selecting a date is still a challenge and not possible at this time. At the moment, both proms will be on “hold” until restrictions are lifted. Anyone that has given a payment in the form of a check, the check will be destroyed since no checks have been deposited. If you would like the check returned, please email me your child’s name along with the check number and I will mail the check back to you. For those that paid with cash or a money order, a school issued check will be mailed.
  
  If a date is selected in the future, you will be notified and we will start a new payment process. If you have any questions, please Mr. Penta at mpenta@xaverian.
  
  

• NEW 6/25 Where can I find my summer reading assignments?

  Summer reading assignments for the entire Xaverian community, including middle school, is available at www.xaverian.org/summerreading. 

• NEW 6/24 How do I get my belongings out of my locker?

  Due to the pandemic, we haven’t allowed any students back into the building. 
  This week we are starting to allow a few Seniors into the building each day to clean out their lockers. After they are done, we will go through each class. 
  We will be sending out a schedule over the next few weeks to allow students to come in to pick up their personal items.
  
  For our returning students, nothing will be removed from any locker and they are secure and we will be assigned the same locker to our students in September.

•  Is there After School Tutoring?

  • Beginning Monday, March 30, our after-school tutoring program will recommence from Monday through Wednesday from 2:45-3:45. Please consult the interactive calendar at the bottom of the Xaverian Announcements page on The Harbor for the respective Zoom links to each class.

•  What will happen with my AP exams?

  • Students in Advanced Placement classes will be sitting for the exams, albeit under different circumstances than we would have expected a month ago. AP Exams will be administered as online exams, 45 minutes in length, and will be taken on your personal devices. (Please note: AP Computer Science Principles will submit a portfolio; refer to your teacher's instructions for that exam format.)

  
  • Students will be tested on material that was covered through March. Your teachers will be able to answer more specific information about what curriculum will be covered on a specific exam.

   

  • College Board will be releasing the actual dates for all AP exams in the coming weeks. We will communicate exam dates to you once we have been informed.

  
  • College Board is offering free online review courses beginning this Wednesday, March 25. These reviews are given live by AP teachers across the country, but will be recorded so that they can be viewed at your convenience. If there is a review given at the same time as a scheduled Xaverian Zoom conference with your teachers, the Xaverian conference takes precedence. You can view the recorded reviews at another time.

• Where can I find daily prayers and announcements?

  • Students and parents can still access daily school announcements and participate in school prayer by visiting the Xaverian Announcements page each morning. 

• I need to speak to my guidance counselor. 

  • Xaverian is taking every step necessary to ensure that our students still maintain open lines of communication with their school counselors. If a student wishes to speak with a counselor, or a parent wishes to reach out themselves, please email the counselor directly. You can also email the Director of School Counseling, Mrs. Meghan Woods at mwoods@xaverian.org. An e-conference session, through Zoom, can be made available based on the schedules of both the student and the counselor. Our teachers have been informed to contact our school counseling department if they detect any issues or concerns on their end.

• When will school re-open?

  As conditions evolve, we will continue to provide you with updated information on the timeline and next steps for transitioning students back into our school building.

• When will sports resume?

  All athletic events, including games, practices, meetings, and tryouts have been postponed indefinitely.

  For academic-related inquiries, please contact your teacher, the department chairperson, or Academic Dean / Assistant Principal.

• I currently do not get emails or texts from Xaverian. Help!

  If you find that you aren't getting school emails or text message notifications from school, please do the following:
  
  • Sign in to The Harbor, and click on your name in the upper right hand corner.
  • Click on PROFILE.
  • Here, you have the capability to add a new/edit phone numbers and digital addresses. 
  • There is nothing further you need to do; this automatically gets refreshed and you will be synced to the correct mailing lists.
  
  If you STILL find you are not receiving information, and your email and phone information is correct, please contact Ms. Stephanie Lorenzo P'26, Director of Communications, at slorenzo@xaverian.org or at 718-836-7100 x128 for further assistance.

• What is the schedule? Am I following a nine period day?

  Xaverian's distance learning model does not run on a nine period, nine day cycle. Rather, we ask students and parents to check in on The Harbor frequently, as teachers will facilitate instruction in various methods that enhance the distance learning experience. 
  
  Moreover, a conference calendar has been instituted. We understand that classes will need time to come together in a more "live" setting. Having a conference calendar allows each class to have a time to do so, without conflicting with other classes or courses. 
  
  

  The goal of this calendar is to provide our students with a more formalized opportunity to meet with their teachers in the form of office hours for a live, interactive video chat. Outlined below is the calendar, which we will run on a three-day cycle, with three blocks per day. The blocks correspond to the class blocks as they appear on The Harbor, according to a Day 1 schedule. The 75-minute window of time affords teachers the flexibility in length and start time, but not all sessions will run for the full-time. 

   

  • When a teacher posts an invitation to a Zoom conference during the respective block, students are encouraged, but not mandated, to join the meeting
  • Teachers may also offer conference times outside of these parameters, beyond 2:15, which, too, provide OPTIONAL additional opportunities to meet with students.

• I need to get something from school. What do I do?

  Currently, the school building is closed for all students, staff and faculty.

• What are the new grading parameters set forth by Xaverian?

  In an attempt to ease concerns and pressure with the quarter ending soon, we have decided to combine quarters three and four. Beginning March 16, Xaverian, including seniors, will move to a semester grading schedule. This means that Quarter 3 and 4 will be combined. There will be no report card for Quarter 3, but rather one semester report card upon conclusion of the year. Final grades will be decided from semester 1, semester 2, midterm and final exam averages.

• How do I set up a Zoom Account?

  Visit zoom.us, and click the sign-up button on the top-left corner. Once you have signed up for an account, you are all set!
  
  Zoom is Xaverian's approved online e-conferencing platform. 

• What are the school-sanctioned methods for e-conferencing and discourse between students and teachers?
