Bishop Brennan's Mass

Rita Chahine ’26 & Juliette Danek Vasquez ’26
On Friday, March 13, one hundred students from Xaverian’s graduating class joined more than 1,000 high school Seniors from across Brooklyn and Queens and gathered for the annual graduation Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph.
The Mass was celebrated by Reverend Robert J. Brennan, bringing together several seniors from the Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn as they prepare to graduate and move on to the next chapter of their lives.

The Mass served as both a celebration and a moment of reflection for the Class of 2026. As multiple seniors gathered in prayer, they gave thanks. They were reminded that their years in Catholic education should be grounded in their faith as they face future opportunities and challenges.

Bishop Brennan encouraged students to remain connected to their faith and to one another as they leave high school, emphasising that faith does not end with this chapter of our lives, but it continues. He motivated students to understand that our relationship with Christ needs to continue to grow as we inspire one another. The bishop emphasized that both faith and community can continue to guide students as they enter college and move on with their future plans, no matter what they may be.

A senior from Christ the King High School delivered an inspirational message to fellow graduates. In his speech, he spoke about the opportunities he gained and experienced through Catholic education and encouraged students to carry the values they learned in high school into the future. He mentioned the importance of faith and service, while also reminding everyone that their education not only prepared them academically, but also spiritually. He ended his speech by congratulating the Class of 2026, acknowledging the achievements of the graduating seniors.

The annual graduation Mass is a tradition within the Diocese of Brooklyn, as it brings seniors from various Catholic schools from both Brooklyn and Queens to celebrate their accomplishments and mark the transition from high school to the next stage of their lives. The Mass was a gathering that served as an important reminder that even as they go their separate ways, they will always remain as a part of a larger community that is grounded in their faith.
