2022-2023 Season Recap

The story of the 2022-2023 Girls' Varsity Basketball season was one of growth and development. Coming off a 2021-2022 season in which they were the youngest team in the league, this year's version returned nine players, including four starters. While still young and starting three sophomores, the team showed amazing growth. Despite playing in the very challenging CHSAA AA league and playing a very tough non-league schedule that included trips to Florida and Virginia, the team finished with a record of 19-8.

The team was led by seniors Charlotte Mitchell and Kara Wehner and buoyed by the all-league level play of sophomores Grace Lanier and Alexandra Carbonaro, as well as one of the best bench units in the league. One of the season's highlights was a 3-0 record at the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando, Florida. The team won the championship game by one point on a last-second jump shot by senior Kara Wehner despite being down 11 points with under 2 minutes to play, just another testament to the team's toughness and resilience. The team returned to league play after the holidays, coming in first place in their division and reaching the city championship game by defeating St. Francis Prep in a quarter-final playoff game and rival Christ the King in a hard-fought semi-final game.

Despite coming up short in the championship game, this team has continued to set the standard for our girls' basketball program, as the varsity team has now qualified for two city championship games in only three full seasons in the varsity league as a fully co-ed school.
